Membership Update:
Sustaining Our Growth Together
Beginning January 1, 2025, we’re refreshing our membership model to keep pace with the co-op’s evolving needs and our ambitious expansion plans. After reviewing how successful food co-operatives fund long-term growth—and recognizing that we currently offer the “best deal in town”—the Board of Directors has voted to replace our one-time lifetime fee with an annual membership.
Why the change? A single up-front payment no longer provides the steady support required to meet rising operational costs, introduce new services, and invest in a larger, more vibrant marketplace. An affordable yearly contribution will give us the reliable resources we need to improve member benefits, reinvest in local producers, and move forward with expansion—while still costing less than memberships at many comparable co-ops.
Rest assured, everyone is welcome to shop and take part in the co-op community, member or not. Members will continue to enjoy all existing perks (and any new ones we add), now backed by a model that keeps the co-op financially resilient for years to come.
Thank you for standing with us as we grow. Together, we’ll ensure Muskoka Market & Eatery remains a thriving, community-owned hub for fresh, local food.
FAQs
-
No! EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
Our doors are open to everyone. At Muskoka Market & Eatery, every neighbour is welcome to shop, explore, and enjoy.
-
Not at all. Many of our shoppers & member-owners call other parts of Ontario—and even the world—home. Some join because they spend summers at their Muskoka cottages; others simply believe in what we’re building and want to lend their support. Wherever you live, you’re welcome to become part of the Muskoka Market & Eatery community.
-
Memberships at Muskoka Market & Eatery are renewed annually, ensuring we have the steady support needed to grow and serve our community. A Family Membership is $100 per year and covers 2 adults and their children living under one roof, granting full access to member perks and voting rights. For local growers, makers, and businesses, our combined Producer & Corporate Membership is $150 per year, allowing you to become co-owners of the co-op while enjoying the same benefits and a shared voice in our future.
Your yearly commitment directly funds new equipment, expanded local sourcing, and the programs you love.
-
When you join Muskoka Market & Eatery, you do far more than unlock discounts—you become a co-owner in a vibrant, democratic food system that keeps dollars circulating close to home, champions local growers, and expands food-literacy programs for all ages.
As a member you’ll save 10 % on every “Member Monday” shop, enjoy exclusive weekly and monthly sale prices, and receive first dibs—and lower ticket costs—on our workshops, trainings, and special events.
Membership also opens the door to governance: you can run for the Board of Directors, lend your expertise on committees, or serve as a special advisor.
Need bulk or case-lot quantities? Members may place special orders at cost + 20 %, making pantry stocking more affordable. And if you love pitching in, volunteer opportunities come with growing “Co-op Ambassador” perks.
In short, your membership fuels the co-op’s mission while rewarding you with savings, access, and a meaningful voice in our shared future.

At Muskoka Market & Eatery we follow a rigorous, “local-first” Procurement Policy: we source from Muskoka and Ontario producers whenever possible, prioritise certified-organic and ethically grown ingredients, and always keep our shelves 100 % GMO-free. You’ll find a full spectrum of groceries, starting with proteins—pastured meats and fish alongside bulk beans, pulses, organic tofu, and tempeh—plus Ontario-made organic dairy, artisan cheeses, and certified chicken, duck, or quail eggs. Our produce bins are filled first with seasonal harvests from regional farms; when the fields can’t supply us (yes, we still want avocados and bananas!), we bring in certified-organic Ontario greenhouse crops and carefully selected organic imports.
Beyond the basics, we showcase value-added treats crafted by small-batch makers across Muskoka and the province, an extensive organic bulk section for pantry staples, freshly milled local flours and grains, and a growing range of baking essentials, dried fruit, seeds, and nuts. We also carry body-care lines formulated by regional wellness experts and eco-friendly home-care products requested by our members. In short, most of what we sell is organic, and everything is chosen for quality, transparency, and community impact—so you can shop with confidence and taste the best of Muskoka in every aisle.

Membership comes with no obligation to put in hours at the Co-op, but we’re always thrilled when members volunteer. Every extra set of hands helps us live our promise of bringing the very best food to every table. If you’d like to dive deeper, visit our Volunteer Ambassador page to see how you can lend your talents to day-to-day operations. Once we’re running at full capacity, volunteers enjoy perks such as complimentary lunches and discounts on groceries—small thank-you’s for the big impact you make. As a not-for-profit, we rely on volunteer energy during slower seasons and for those tasks that are tough to staff, so your time truly keeps our doors open. We’d love to have you on the team!
